Also please post any topics you want covered in the agenda in the comments of the Facebook Group , or email firstname.lastname@example.org . Likewise if you wish to volunteer to join the GWPRA committee, please contact the secretary by 9th May 2021 for more information or to register interest. The Poster below has some information:
Yesterday, on Tuesday 27th April 2021, the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, visited Great Western Park. This was quite timely, as again illegal encampers has tried to setup camp again in Didcot but had not used GWP and left after a few days.
She was joined by Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, MP David Johnston, Cllr. Ian Snowdon and myself, Chairperson of the GWPRA. We had the opportunity to describe the significant community harm caused by the previous illegal encampments. We also had the opportunity to emphasise our belief in the need for changes to legislation, giving Police greater powers to protect our community against this threat. Some of the most affected Residents were also able to personally express their views of the situation to the Home Secretary.
We were also able to show how effective the natural target hardening of the bunds has been, since they were installed at insistence of the GWP Residents. Hopefully the improvements to legislation and continued target hardening will minimise any future aggravation caused by illegal encampments in GWP and beyond.
Our thanks go to all present for their continued support with this issue and in particular to Matthew Barber, for arranging this opportunity to directly deliver the experiences endured by GWP Residents.
In line with COVID-19 government guidelines litter picks have been suspended around GWP area.
We are now able to arrange small group picks (6), in partnership with the South and Vale Waste Team.
The first pick has been scheduled for Saturday 3rd April (10-12), unfortunately we can only have a group size of 6 so there are not spaces available this time round.
For anyone else who wishes to get involved in litter picking please contact the Waste team directly and provide them with booking form/details. They will loan equipment and arrange collections with you directly.
We are hopeful, in line with COVID-19 guidelines we will soon be able to hold litter picks of groups of 30 hopefully in late May. Please keep an eye on GWPRA site for Facebook events/details or contact Tammi – email@example.com.
In support with Keep Britain Tidy / Surfers Against Sewage / Planet Patrol and localised initiatives we have created a LoveGWP facebook page to raise awareness of keeping our environments on GWP. Watch this space for further information on waste audits, local school initiatives and bin audits.
Whichever way you decide to do your litter pick please stay safe – please don’t litter pick by busy roads and please follow the guidance from Keep Britain Tidy – and their advice about litter picking and COVID-19 safety advice.
The planning application will be lodged in a few weeks but there have been some changes since last year that are worth reviewing. The new leaflet information for the Didcot Data Centre is here. There have been a number of revisions to the original pre-application last year, following the public consultation. Details of the revisions and list of 20 questions and answers can be found here
At the virtual GWP Residents’ meeting on Monday 8th March 2021, there will be an opportunity to hear from representatives of the data centre developer. Please can you post any questions for them on our Facebook Group or email firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 1st March 2021, to allow them to provide detailed answers for you.
