At the recent Resident Associations’ [RA] meeting, it was decided that a position of Event/Fundraiser was needed within the RA in order to further one of the aims of the Residents’ Association which is “To help build a Community Spirit within Great Western Park.”
Enthusiasm, dedication for this type of work and being able to manage a proposed event from start to finish are typical attributes necessary for this post. Although previous experience is not essential, it would be an advantage.

Cornerstone are hosting an exhibition during February in their gallery space called ‘Didcot Dog Mile’, curated by artist Miranda Creswell who has been working with an archaeological project at Oxford University around documenting the landscape in England. Miranda has spent much time sketching the Great Western Park site and during her time there has encountered some nearby residents who are also amateur artists (and dog walkers). The exhibition will be a celebration of the past, present and future of the landscape, and will include Miranda’s sketches of the landscape, maps and archaeological site drawings, and photographs and paintings by residents and dog walkers from Didcot.
On Thursday 14th February, 6pm, they are holding a talk associated with the exhibition, with contributions from Miranda Creswell about her work documenting the landscape; an archaeologist from Oxford University, and another one from Oxford Archaeology (which did the site excavation for the GWP development), and some of the Didcot residents/artists who have contributed to the exhibition. They would very much welcome any new residents from GWP to attend the talk, to help talk about and celebrate the old and the new on this land.
Attached is the poster about the exhibition. There will be a chance to view the exhibition itself after the talk (and their cafe/bar is putting on a nice evening of dinner and music for those who wish to stay and celebrate Valentine’s day!)
Oxfordshire County Council will on Monday launch a major public consultation to gain community views about what type of schools people would like to see opening in Great Western Park. Obviously residents of GWP should have their say, and with this in mind the publicity materials which contain details on the consultation and how to respond to it can be viewed and downloaded from the links provided below. Oxfordshire County Council are hoping to direct people mostly towards the website (www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/didcotschools) rather than distributing hard copies.

The Great Western Park Residents Association are pleased to announce their first community event.

Thursday 6th December, 6.45pm onwards, in front of the Taylor Wimpey sales office.
During the meeting regarding the temporary community centre the overall opinion (of those who attended) was that the proposed size and layout was not suitable so SODC are taking this back to the developers.
In addition, this building was originally meant to be a temporary structure but it appears this is no longer the case so taking this into consideration it’s better the design is more suitable for long term use. Once the development hits 900 homes (occupied) the developers are required to start the larger community centre further south towards the Wantage Road (B4493).
Attached is the proposed outside space where the community centre will be sited.
