Northern Neighbourhood Community Centre Update

Dear residents,

As you may be aware, representatives from SODC and Taylor Wimpey attended the residents association meeting last week. We were informed that SODC are providing the extra funding to enable a larger community centre to be built and new plans have been submitted. Attached is the most recent draft layout and request that any comments/suggestions are e-mailed to the RA Secretary (secretary@gwpra.org.uk) before the next meeting on 2nd May – the two representatives will also be in attendance at the May meeting.

Northern Neighbourhood Community Centre Update

SODC have kindly agreed to provide additional funding which has resulted in the Northern Community Centre now having the activity room size increased to 100 square metres along with a hallway, couple of WCs, small kitchen and storage room. The hallway and extra toilet were agreed following suggestions made by Residents attending last night’s meeting along with a covered area outside the centre for the storage of buggies.

Taylor Wimpey are to redraw the plans and these will be made available for viewing towards the end of next week, I’ll make sure they are upload to the GWPRA website so you’ll get a chance to view them.

If all goes to plan Taylor Wimpey hope to have the building finished this coming September.

Overall this has been a successful campaign by the residents to get the centre built as a permanent structure, it was originally meant to be temporary, and increased in size to be more usable/fit for purpose.

Community Centre Update

On 13th March members of the Residents Association attended a meeting being held regarding the proposed community centre for Great Western Park. During the meeting, representatives from SODC and Taylor Wimpey outlined their plans to build a permanent structure on the site of the proposed temporary building. As we had suspected, the proposed size is small to say the least and we feel that it would not accommodate many community groups or clubs – the dimensions are approximately 10m x 7m.

Those of us who attended the meeting did not agree to the proposal of the smaller building and have asked Taylor Wimpey to look again at extra funding for a larger building. Failing that, we have asked to be involved in the consultation for the building specification/location etc. As such, we thought it would be appropriate for Toby Warren of SODC and the Taylor Wimpey representative to attend our next Residents Association meeting on Thursday 4th April at 7.30pm, Didcot Civic Centre. Please make a note of this in your diaries and make every effort to attend in order for our views to be taken into account!

GWPRA – Election of Committee Members 2nd May 2013

Great Western Park Residents’ Association

Election of Committee Members 2nd May 2013

Elections will take place on 2nd May 2013 for committee members for the Great Western Park Residents Association (GWPRA). If you would be interested in fulfilling any of the following positions please see the GWPRA constitution for further information regarding the roles and responsibilities. Applicants must be a resident of Great Western Park in order to apply.

The positions available for election are:

Chairman

Vice-Chairman

Secretary

Treasurer

IT Administrator

In addition, the new position of Events Organiser/Fundraiser is also available. At a recent GWPRA meeting, it was decided that this position is needed in order to further one of the aims of the Residents Association, which is “To help build a Community Spirit within Great Western Park.” Enthusiasm, dedication for this type of work and being able to manage a proposed event from start to finish are typical attributes necessary for this post. Although previous experience is not essential, it would be an advantage. Specific roles and responsibilities are to be confirmed at a later date.

Please send expressions of interest, stating which position you would be interested in fulfilling to: secretary@gwpra.org.uk by the date of the next RA meeting (4th April 2013).

Elections will take place at the RA meeting on Thursday 2nd May 2013, where you will be expected to attend and will be required to have a GWP resident present to second your proposal for election. If you are unable to attend this meeting, apologies must be sent to the Secretary by 7.30pm on 2nd May 2013, stating whether or not you still wish to be considered for the Committee position, in order for voting to take place.

Public Consultation: Vale Local Plan 2029 Part One

The council invites you to comment has on our new draft Local Plan 2029 Part One: Strategic Sites and Policies. The Local Plan is one of the key planning policy documents designed to help guide decisions we will make about developments in the district for the next 15 years. We have used the previous work we put into developing our core strategy to help produce our Local Plan Part One.

This consultation on the Local Plan Part One will run for an extended 10 week period. We are making the draft plan available for a four week period in advance of the statutory six week time period to allow the public to review and familiarise themselves with the document. On 28 March we will publish the evidence base reports and supporting documentation for the formal six weeks public consultation. We are asking for responses on all documents by 4.00 pm Thursday 9 May 2013.

You can view a copy of the plan and make comments directly in the document using our new consultation system, which is the easiest and most efficient way, by visiting our website www.whitehorsedc.gov.uk/localplanpartone. Alternatively, hard copies of the document are available at the Vale of White Horse District Council Offices, Abbey House, Abbey Close, Abingdon, OX14 3JE and libraries across the district. Please be aware that all comments received will be available to the public to view and may be included on our website. All comments must be received by 4.00 pm Thursday 9 May 2013.

We will be holding a number of public exhibitions, which will provide stakeholders an opportunity to discuss the proposals with officers face to face. Exhibitions will take place running from midday to 7.00 pm on the following dates and given locations:

13 March – Wantage, Civic Hall
19 March – Grove, Methodist Hall
21 March – Kingston Bagpuize, Southmoor Village Hall
26 March – Didcot, Cornerstone
